Fulfilling John’s dream of providing support to those who feel undeserving. 100 % of Donations are used for Scholarships and assisting those in need of Mental Health Advocacy. To continue John Evan’s Dream, the John Evan Cash Foundation has pledges to assist young individual who need a “win” and to help offer support through their journey.
John Evan sought to help others from a young age. He would describe his target client base as a life coach to be…“Those who do not think anyone would work to help them”. John Evan knew that everyone deserves the support needed to live their best life. The John Evan Cash Foundation works to fulfill this mission by providing scholarships, financial support and mental health assistance. We intend to carry forward John Evan’s mission to help those in need.
The John Evan Cash Scholarship in Psychology was established in 2020 by the John Evan Cash Foundation. The scholarship will be awarded to students in the College of Sciences who are an undergraduate with a declared major in psychology and in good academic standing. A single student may be selected no more than two times and an application is required each year.
With the love and support of his family and friends, John completed his BS in Psychology in May of 2019. He passed away due to a accidental circumstance three days before commencement, but we celebrate his accomplishment.
John realized everyone doesn’t have the supportive relationships he experienced, therefore, he pledged to help those less fortunate than himself.
The John Evan Cash Foundation intends to honor John’s memory with a pledge to carry his work forward. Those closest to John have a desire to be a blessing and support to young people that feel disenfranchised. We intend to bring hope to those that lack support to take the critical next step to better their life.
We urge all to apply regardless of your circumstances. Scholarships are not awarded solely based on academics. We encourage you to share your story via a short video recording and complete the application. Your request could be to fill a gap needed relative to education, a need for mental or physical assistance and/or some other form of advocacy.
By the end of 2019, the John Evan Cash Foundation aims to help ten individuals personally, whether that be through financial assistance for college, life mentor ship or mental health services.
As our foundation continues to operate, we plan on spreading John’s legacy through multiple individuals, and help those who feel as though they aren’t good enough.
As time continues, the memories of John will be remembered even though he is not with us. While he may not be able to carry out his dreams in person, this foundation aims to continue this legacy long into the future.
John Evan and Quinton met as freshman. Both Psychology majors; they talked many times about how they would use their degrees to help young adults “make it” in a tough world. They shared tough classes, spring break car trips to the beaches of Florida (pictured), and late-night gaming.
Quinton describes what he believes John’s ideal candidate for an award to be “humble, determined and in need of a break”.
We aim to be different. Our award criteria is intended to not only be academically focused, but incorporate other qualities that consider humanist traits.
John often acknowledged the positive qualities in those he met. He returned a smile when met with a smile or a frown from others. John enjoyed interacting with people. After most interactions his comment would be “she’s nice” or “he was so helpful, I learned a lot”. John was humble. He appreciated friendship and his family. He appreciated compliments and accepted them with grace and a warm “thank you, I appreciate it!” John Evan Cash knew that he had something to offer, but more important he know that he could always learn. John Evan was humble, therefore we will look for similar qualities in our candidates.
John was intentional about helping others, especially those that didn’t have any resources to leverage. He enjoyed being able to help a family buy their first house through Habit for Humanities. John verbalized his thoughts about everyone deserving to have a safe, productive and happy life. He knew that given the opportunity, anyone could thrive. Everyone deserves a break, if they are willing to put in the work to be successful. Our candidates should clearly articulate what help is needed to contribute to their overall health and well-being.
John Evan was an advent gamer. It was sheer determination that allowed him to master the highest levels of Super Smash Bros., 2K, and Dragonball Xenoverse 2. That same determination drove him to see and experience many countries and adventures. It sustained him as he worked to complete his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. All accomplished despite barriers. John knew that barriers can almost always be overcome through financial support, education, and necessary medical care with the right advocates. John Evan appreciated that he had all four and that the same were not afforded to many. John Evan practiced sharing his support and encouragement every day. Our candidate’s stories should demonstrate a need to remove barrier(s) that could limit their success.
